Banh Mi and I have had a complicated relationship. It called to me, I answered—and then I ran away. The flavors were often too intense, too soon, for my palate.
Everything changed when I tried the Banh Mi crostini Double Dragon served at the Portland Bloggers Holiday Mingle. I hesitated at first; this sandwich was asking for another chance. I was still wary from past encounters, but I tried it—and immediately noticed a difference. This Banh Mi kept its heat, but introduced more complexity and balance. It was flavorful without being aggressive, with softer edges that made it more approachable. So, like someone willing to give an old love a second chance, I dove back in. This time the result wasn’t drama but a pleasant, lasting culinary friendship.

On your first visit, try at least two cocktails. Among those we sampled, favorites included:

The A & B at the Same Time — gin, lemon, grapefruit, aquavit, Peychaud’s, and a touch of salt. It’s often served in a tall glass; a smaller portion was offered for sampling.

Nightswimming — sweet vermouth, rye, Angostura, and orange peel. A smooth, balanced cocktail with a memorable name.
Double Dragon also hosts live music, and their Baby Ketten Karaoke on Saturday nights (9pm–2am) is a popular local event.
