Learn how to create an easy Thanksgiving tablescape using natural wood and greenery for a modern farmhouse look.
Holiday plans may look different this year, but that doesn’t mean we can’t put together a simple and beautiful Thanksgiving tablescape.
We only use our dining room table for holidays—well, except when I clear a corner to work.
So I’ll be doing my regular work at the kitchen table until Thanksgiving, which means I can style the dining room table early and keep it looking festive for weeks.

Is it a Centerpiece or a Tablescape?
Let’s clear up the terms. I think of the entire styled table, including place settings, as the tablescape. The grouping in the middle is the centerpiece. That distinction helps when planning the overall look.
3 Easy Steps to Style a Centerpiece

For the centerpiece I shopped my home to keep costs low and reused pieces I already love. The result is a warm, natural centerpiece with layered textures.

1. Table Runner and Garland
Start with a neutral, farmhouse-style table runner down the center of the table. Layer a greenery garland on top to add soft texture and a natural foundation for your centerpiece.

2. Large Neutral Decor Pieces
Next add a few larger decor elements for height and presence: a wood pedestal bowl with a decorative pumpkin, grouped wood candlesticks in varying heights on one side, and a wood candle lantern on the other. The mixed wood tones bring warmth and interest.
3. Small Natural Decorations

Fill the wood bowl with greenery and tuck in a few mini white pumpkins. Scatter additional mini pumpkins and fresh sprigs along the garland to create a fuller, cohesive centerpiece.
How to Set a Thanksgiving Table
With the centerpiece in place, move on to place settings. Setting a table is a joyful way to imagine the conversations and memories you’ll create when you gather around it.
For this tablescape I used everyday white dishes and added warm wood chargers to elevate the look. The chargers add depth and anchor the setting while keeping the palette natural and calm.

1. Layers of Place Setting
Layering creates a polished place setting. From bottom to top:
- Charger
- Dinner plate
- Salad plate
- Napkin
- Grapevine place card or decorative accent

2. Add Place Cards
For place cards I used small grapevine pumpkins and tied a Kraft cardstock tag reading “Give Thanks” with twine. It’s a simple, natural touch that reinforces the farmhouse theme and helps guests find their seats.

I hope this inspires you to create a relaxed, natural Thanksgiving tablescape this year. With a few simple layers—runner, garland, mixed wood pieces, and small pumpkins—you can achieve a warm, modern farmhouse look that feels inviting and festive.
