Hi, I’m Emily, and I’m seriously addicted to energy balls.

I don’t do a lot of meal prepping since I cook so much for work, but keeping a stash of energy balls in the fridge or freezer is a must. They jump-start my mornings and fuel my workouts. I try lots of flavors, but lately my favorite is these chocolate peanut butter energy balls.

Yes, chocolate and peanut butter in the morning—why not? They also make excellent afternoon snacks, school or work lunches, picnic bites, or travel snacks. Whenever hangry strikes, these energy balls are ready to help.

These are incredibly simple to make: combine eight wholesome ingredients, mix until you have a thick, sticky dough, chill for about 15 minutes (this makes rolling much easier), then shape into bite-sized balls. Store them in the refrigerator for up to a week or in the freezer for up to six months.

I dream of a fully stocked chest freezer with multiple flavors so I don’t have to make them for weeks—one day!

Energy balls are nutrient-dense: oats and honey deliver healthy carbohydrates, flax seed meal and peanut butter provide healthy fats and protein, and unsweetened cocoa adds chocolate flavor plus antioxidants. One or two of these little bites offer a satisfying energy boost.

These chocolate peanut butter energy balls are soft, chewy, and loaded with rich peanut butter and cocoa flavor—perfect before a workout or whenever you need a quick pick-me-up.

If you want more energy ball ideas, consider matcha cherry energy balls, chocolate mint energy balls, chai spiced raw energy balls, or almond joy raw energy balls. So many tasty options—try them all and decide which you like best.

Guess that means you’ll have to taste-test them yourself! 😉

Description

Packed with nutrient-rich ingredients, these bites deliver a quick energy boost while offering all the chocolate and peanut butter flavor you crave.

Ingredients

Units

Scale
  • 1/2 cup flax seed meal
  • 1 cup gluten free old fashioned oats
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup + 3 tablespoons natural peanut butter (creamy or chunky; ingredients should be just peanuts and possibly salt)
  • 1/3 + 1 tablespoon honey
  • Optional: 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips (use dairy-free chips if avoiding dairy)

Instructions

  1. Mix ingredients: Add all ingredients to a large mixing bowl. Use a firm spatula to combine everything until you have a thick, sticky dough. If needed, use clean hands to fully incorporate the mixture.
  2. Test consistency: Pinch a small piece of dough—if it sticks together easily, it’s ready. If it’s crumbly, stir in a little more peanut butter and honey.
  3. Chill the dough: Cover and place the dough in the freezer for about 15 minutes, or until it’s easier to handle and not overly sticky.
  4. Form the balls: Use a small cookie scoop (about 2 tablespoons) to portion the dough, then roll into balls between your hands. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week or in the freezer for up to six months.
