Creamy Yogurt Soju Cocktail Recipe with 3 Simple Ingredients

You might have seen us roaming Koreatown—sipping yogurt soju, sharing kimchi fried rice, and dancing to a DJ mixing classic hip hop with modern EDM. Those were fun times.

Lately we’ve been honoring our favorite LA pochas from the comfort of our kitchen, and this yogurt soju cocktail is inspired by those nights out.

Yogurt Soju is a popular soju-based cocktail that blends the creamy tang of a yogurt drink with the clean, smooth taste of soju, finished with soda for a light, fizzy texture.

Enjoy it on its own or pair it with bar food (pulutan) for a great time.

Soju Boy Cocktail at the wedding

This is one of the earliest recipes on our site. We originally called it the “Soju Boy Cocktail.”

When our friends Kris and Gendarme got married, their reception featured two cocktails inspired by the couple. They used our recipe and the name “Soju Boy Cocktail” to represent Gendarme, whose name means “soldier” in French. The drink was a hit—we’re honored to have been part of their celebration.

What is Yogurt Soju?

Yogurt Soju is a Korean cocktail that pairs a yogurt-style probiotic drink with soju. The result is a mildly sweet, creamy, and easy-to-drink cocktail that has become popular, especially among younger drinkers.

Some soju brands sell a ready-made yogurt flavor, but this cocktail is extremely simple to make at home and captures that same creamy, refreshing profile.

Why Drink Yogurt Soju?

Besides tasting great over ice, yogurt soju is quick to prepare and uses just a few ingredients. A yogurt drink adds probiotics and nutrients that may support digestion, and the cocktail’s light sweetness pairs well with bold, savory dishes.

It’s affordable, fuss-free, and versatile—perfect for casual gatherings or a warm day when you want a refreshing beverage that’s stronger than beer but milder than spirits.

How to Make Yogurt Soju

This cocktail takes under a minute and needs only three ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Yakult or another yogurt drink
  • 3 oz soju (Original or Fresh flavor)
  • 1/4 cup lemon-lime soda or ginger ale

Recipe

Quick steps:

  1. Pour 2 oz of cold yogurt drink and 3 oz of soju into a glass and stir to combine.
  2. Top with about 1/4 cup of lemon-lime soda or ginger ale for fizz.
  3. Serve over ice or pour into shot cups. Cheers!

Best Sojus for Yogurt Soju

Choose a neutral, lightly flavored soju so it doesn’t compete with the yogurt drink. Brands like Saero, Jinro, Chum Churum, and Good Day work well—look for bottles labeled “Original” or “Fresh.”

Best Yogurt Drink for Yogurt Soju

Use a yogurt or probiotic drink rather than regular stirred yogurt to keep the drink smooth and pourable. A plain, lightly sweetened (or unsweetened) probiotic drink like Yakult, Cool Plus, or a similar bottled yogurt drink is ideal. Regular yogurt will make the cocktail too thick.

Best Sodas for Yogurt Soju

The soda adds fizz and light citrus notes. Lemon-lime sodas such as Sprite, 7Up, or similar options are common choices. We also enjoy using ginger ale for a subtle spicy-sweet finish.

What Goes Well with Yogurt Soju?

Yogurt Soju pairs beautifully with street food and bold Korean flavors. Its creamy, slightly sweet profile complements savory dishes like Pork Belly Sisig, Chicken Katsu Curry, corn cheese, or Korean BBQ. It also works well as a simple, refreshing drink on its own at social gatherings.

Final thoughts

Yogurt Soju is an approachable, refreshing cocktail—sweet, simple, and creamy. It’s easy to make, pairs with many foods, and provides a pleasant alternative to beer or straight spirits when you want something lighter but still alcoholic.
