Sleep Overnight in a Paris Grocery Store — Sleepover at Paris Boutik

Do you enjoy discovering unusual and memorable places to stay when you travel? If so, you’re in the right place. We recently had the chance to spend a night in a genuine Parisian épicerie converted into a luxury suite by the Paris Boutik team, and we’re excited to share the experience of this romantic and authentic stay.

The Paris Boutik concept

Paris Boutik creates “suites urbaines,” unique urban suites that repurpose historic or characteristic Parisian spaces into comfortable, design-forward accommodations. The suite we experienced was a traditional small grocery store—a classic épicerie—beautifully transformed into a duplex suite that retains its original charm while offering modern comforts.

On arrival the hosts left a complimentary bottle of Champagne and a helpful guidebook with local recommendations for restaurants and activities. Little touches like these make the stay feel personal and welcoming.

What it’s like to sleep in a Paris grocery store

Stepping inside feels like entering a loft-style duplex where an open-plan living room and a small, well-appointed kitchen sit on the main level. The designers preserved the grocery’s original shelving and display areas, which are stocked with beloved French brands and products that add authentic character and a sense of nostalgia.

The bedroom is on the lower level and features a very comfortable bed. The bathroom is spacious and inviting, including a deep tub perfect for a long soak. For anyone who enjoys a relaxing bath, this was a real highlight of our stay.

The shelves display familiar tins and jars—conserves, cookies, salted caramels, mustards and specialty sauces—items that evoke the everyday life of Paris and create a warm, lived-in atmosphere. It was delightful to wander the small space and take in the little details that make the suite feel like an authentic Parisian home.

Where the suite is located

The épicerie suite sits in the 12th arrondissement, just a two-minute walk from Gare de Lyon, a five-minute walk from the lively Marché d’Aligre, and about ten minutes on foot from Place de la Bastille. Its location makes it easy to explore both neighborhood markets and central Paris attractions while returning to a quiet, characterful base.

We recommend visiting the Marché d’Aligre for an early morning treat—white wine and oysters is a favorite local ritual—and enjoying the market’s vibrant atmosphere. It’s a delightful way to spend a Sunday morning when you’re based nearby.

A romantic hideaway for two

This suite is especially well suited to couples. The warm, lounge-like living area invites close conversation and relaxation, and the small dining table is perfect for sharing croissants and coffee. The tub encourages a long soak, and the comfortable bed is ideal for lingering after a late evening. The overall ambiance is intimate and cozy, making it a lovely choice for a romantic escape.

Feeling at home in Paris

The night we stayed it rained heavily, which made returning to the suite all the more enjoyable. We explored the neighborhood earlier in the day, then picked up takeout sushi on our way back—sushi, maki, chirashi and a green tea ice cream that we enjoyed while watching TV and sipping Champagne. Small comforts like these made the stay feel wonderfully homely.

Other Paris Boutik experiences

Paris Boutik operates several similarly creative suites. In addition to the épicerie, they offer other themed spaces—some guests can even sleep in a converted bookshop in the Marais. Each suite highlights a different facet of Parisian life while combining authenticity with comfort.
