Looking for where to eat vegan food in Maui? You’re in luck — the island offers plenty of plant-based choices to power your adventures. I recommend booking a vacation rental with a full kitchen so you can prepare some meals at home and still enjoy dining out. From the Road to Hana to Kihei, Lahaina and Paia, every corner of Maui has delicious, healthy vegan options.

Where to Stay in Maui
Before diving into Maui’s vegan scene, consider staying somewhere with a full kitchen. That approach saved time and money for us: we usually cooked two meals at our condo and dined out once. Expect island prices to be higher than on the mainland, and for visitors from countries with weaker exchange rates, costs can add up faster.
We stayed in a vacation rental in North Kihei and enjoyed it. Compared to Lahaina and Kaanapali, Kihei felt more relaxed, had great beaches and was a convenient central base for exploring the island. Lahaina and Kaanapali have more resort-style hotels and upscale dining, but you’ll find vegan-friendly restaurants there as well.
You’ll also want to rent a car if you plan to explore — a vehicle makes it easy to reach food spots across the island.

If you choose a rental, stock the fridge when you arrive so you have simple options for breakfast and lunch. Our favorite local market was Mana Foods in Paia, but you’ll also find major supermarkets and natural food stores across Maui, including Farmer’s Market Maui in Napali, Whole Foods in Kahului and Hawaiian Moons in Kihei.
We kept meals simple and repeated a few favorites to minimize cost, effort and food waste — less time in the kitchen meant more time exploring Maui’s beaches, hikes and waterfalls.
Best Natural Food Stores
- Hawaiian Moons Natural Foods in Kihei
- Farmer’s Market Maui in Ka’anapali
- Mana Foods in Paia (favourite)
- Down to Earth Organic and Natural in Kahului
- Whole Foods in Kahului
In addition to these specialty stores, Times Supermarket, Safeway and Foodland carry basics island-wide. Watch for roadside fruit stands and local farmers’ markets — you’ll often find fresh produce and snacks along major roads and near popular beaches.

Breakfast Ideas
- Fresh island fruit: papaya, mango, banana, avocado
- Non-dairy yogurt
- Avocado toast
- Nut-butter toast
- Granola with non-dairy milk or yogurt
- Cereal and coffee

Lunch and Dinner Ideas
- Simple salads with mixed greens, chopped vegetables and a dressing
- Grilled Field Roast sausages in buns for a beach barbecue
- Store-bought vegan mac and cheese with steamed broccoli
- Vegetable stir-fry with tofu
- Sandwiches or wraps with avocado, hummus, tomato and lettuce
With a stocked fridge, you’ll be ready to enjoy Maui and sample vegan options across the island. Below is a region-by-region guide to some of the best vegan-friendly spots I discovered.
Where to Eat Vegan Food in Maui
This list is organized by area, but Maui is small enough that most places are within a reasonable drive. Grouping stops by location helps avoid unnecessary back-and-forth driving. The island offers a variety of vegan and easily adaptable options — from dedicated plant-based cafés to Thai, Mexican and Indian restaurants that will accommodate simple substitutions.

Maui’s food is generally fresh and healthy. While exploring the beaches, jungles and waterfalls, we found meals convenient and tasty — though the island experiences often outshine the dining notes on this trip.

Eating vegan in Maui is straightforward if you prefer casual, healthy spots. If you plan to dine at upscale steak or seafood restaurants with non-vegan-focused menus, options may be more limited — but for relaxed cafés, food trucks and natural food stores, you’ll have no trouble finding plant-based meals.
Lahaina and Ka’anapali (North West Maui)

Farmer’s Market Maui
Located in Lahaina near Honokowai, this deli and grocery offers grab-and-go items, smoothies and a strong selection of vegan groceries. Great for a quick breakfast, healthy takeaway lunch or a picnic. Try the mock chicken sandwich.

Choice Health Bar
Choice Health Bar has locations in Lahaina and (soon) Paia. Expect salads, acai bowls, smoothies, kombucha and grab-and-go wraps or chia pudding. Their healthy plate lunches and bowls are satisfying options for any meal.

A favorite spot with a full menu of smoothies, acai bowls, curries, sandwiches, salads and buddha bowls, plus raw treats and vegan desserts. Comfortable seating and friendly service make it a great stop for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Farmacy Health Bar
Farmacy has locations in Wailuku and Lahaina, offering acai bowls, smoothies, salads and sandwiches. The Wailuku spot is more takeout-focused, but the food is fresh and flavorful — a reliable breakfast, lunch or light dinner option.
Coconut Caboose
This food truck north of Napali serves coconut gelato, shaved ice and other coconut-based treats. A tasty stop if you’re exploring scenic drives like the area around Nakalele Point.

Mo-Ono Hawaii (Food Truck)
Located in the food truck park near Kahului airport, Mo’Ono serves excellent acai bowls in a few sizes. Simple menu, done well — my favorite acai bowl on Maui.

Thai Mee Up (Food Truck)
Also in the Kahului food truck park, this was the best Thai food I had on Maui. Fast, tasty and reasonably priced. If you have dietary concerns like fish sauce in curries, ask the staff. Note that many food trucks and acai places use disposable containers, so bring reusable containers if you prefer.
Thai Spice
Located in Paia, Thai Spice can make many menu items vegan on request. It’s a convenient option if you’re in town and want a quick Thai meal.
Kihei (South West Maui)

Veg-Out (Food Truck)
Veg-Out operates a food truck in Kihei and a restaurant in Haiku. They serve vegan pizza, pad Thai, desserts and more. The pad Thai from the truck was generous and tasty, and their vegan chocolate cake is a highlight.

The Road to Hana is a must-do day trip. There are vegan-friendly stops along the way and in Hana itself — perfect for fueling up between waterfalls and beach breaks.
Jaw’s Cafe
Located at the start of the Hana Highway near Paia, Jaw’s offers coffee, wraps, sandwiches and a pleasant picnic area — a convenient starting point for the drive.

Coconut Glen’s has locations along the Road to Hana and in Hana itself. Their coconut ice cream is refreshing and well worth a stop.
The Surfing Burro (Food Truck)
Located in the food truck park with other vendors, The Surfing Burro offers several vegan Mexican options if you’re craving tacos or burritos.

Ae’s Thai Kitchen (Food Truck)
Ae’s offers plenty of vegan choices; I enjoyed the drunken noodles with tofu. It’s a solid lunch option on the return from Hana.
More Vegan Food Options
These places have vegan options I didn’t try personally but that are worth considering if you explore further.
Maui Kombucha (Raw Vegan) — Haiku
Located in Haiku, Maui Kombucha offers its own kombucha and a menu of raw and cooked vegan fusion dishes including salads, wraps, flatbreads, lasagna and desserts. It’s a good stop when exploring Upcountry or returning from Hana.
Milagros (Vegan Options) — Paia
A Tex-Mex spot on Paia’s main street with vegan-friendly items like fajitas, soft tacos and veggie burritos (ask to hold the cheese). The patio is pleasant for a drink or meal.
Maui Flatbread Company (Vegan Options) — Paia
Offers at least one vegan flatbread featuring organic tomato sauce, caramelized onions, mushrooms, fresh tomatoes, local spinach and garlic oil — sounds delicious for a casual meal.
