Homemade Watermelon Kool-Aid Slushies just in time for summer!

Summer afternoons and slushies go together — swimming, cooling off, enjoying a cold treat, then swimming again. I still picture sitting under a tree in a swimsuit with a slushie in hand, sticky faces from drips, and my mom urging us to finish before coming inside. Recently my husband and I realized our children had never tried slushies, so I made it a mission to fix that.
That led me to think of another classic summer flavor: Kool-Aid. Back in the day we picked our favorite packet flavors and mixed them up with sugar. Today you can skip the fuss with pre-made Kool-Aid, which made it quick and easy to prepare these watermelon slushies. I used the pre-made 96-ounce Kool-Aid drink for convenience and also picked up some powdered drink mix for a craft project I’ll share later — cherry limeade is next on my list!

To perfect the slushie, add ice a little at a time until you reach your preferred consistency. I used crushed ice, but whole ice cubes work fine if you blend them well.
